Eduardo Rocón de Lima

Experience of Eduardo Rocón de Lima

Eduardo Rocon de Lima was born in Vitoria, Brazil (1979). He graduated in Electrical Engineering at Universidade Federal do Espiríto Santo (UFES) in 2001. From 1999 through 2000 he worked as a research associate at Laboratório de Automação Inteligente and successfully held a CNPq scholarship at UFES. Subsequently he moved to Spain to pursue a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid with Prof. A. Barrientos and Prof. J.L. Pons. His Ph.D. thesis (2006), for which he was awarded the Georges Giralt PhD Award (2008), focused on the development of a rehabilitation robotic exoskeleton that provides a means of testing and validating non grounded control strategies for robotic exoskeletons for active upper limb tremor suppression. Dr. Rocon continued his work in tremor suppression and the application of neuroprosthetics and neurorobitcs in rehabilitation on a post-doctoral contract from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, Dr. Rocon was awarded with a Ramón y Cajal contract to continue developing his activities (the most competitive and prestigious postdoc contract in Spain). At the age of 30, Dr. Rocon got a tenured researcher position (2010-present) (the average age to get tenure position at CSIC is ~39 years). During this period Dr. Rocon has established his own research group which focuses on the development and implementation of research studies that generate a new body of knowledge and develop new technological solutions aimed at the comprehension and control of human biological systems and its relation to the environment. These research lines are defined in the framework of the VII working programme as well as Horizon 2020 as described by the European Commission. Dr. Rocon’s research team is composed by 2 postdoctoral researcher, 2 PhD students, and 1 technician. As a tenure researcher, Dr. Rocon has attracted funding for over 2.0M€ to support his team’s research activities.
