Ethical Committee

In a world where Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are increasingly transforming our society, the Center for Automation and Robotics (CAR UPM-CSIC) has established its Ethics Committee as the guardian of the values that should guide our technological innovation.
Our mission
The CAR Ethics Committee was founded on the conviction that scientific progress must always go hand in hand with profound ethical reflection. Our mission is to ensure that every technological advancement developed at our Center contributes positively to society, respecting fundamental principles such as:
- Protection of privacy and human dignity
- Transparency in algorithmic decision-making processes
- Fairness and non-discrimination in autonomous systems
- Safety and reliability of developed technologies
- Responsible use of resources and environmental impact
How do we work?
The Committee acts as an accessible and flexible resource for the entire CAR research community, offering:
- Ethics advice for projects under development
- Preventive assessment of potential ethical dilemmas
- Resolution of queries regarding ethical aspects of research
- Guidance on the application of ethical principles in AI and robotics
- Coordination with the Ethics Committees of CSIC and UPM.
Our team
We have a multidisciplinary team of experts committed to research ethics:
- Dra. María Dolores del Castillo (Coordinator)
- Dr. Miguel Hernando
- Dr. Manuel Cebrian
- Dr. José Ignacio Serrano
- Dr. Fernando Matía
- Dr. Jorge Godoy
- Dr. Leandro González
Commitment to the Future
At CAR, we firmly believe that the most disruptive technologies will be those that, in addition to being innovative, are developed with a solid ethical foundation. Our committee works to ensure that the robotics and AI we develop today build a tomorrow where technology and humanity advance in harmony.
"Ethics is not an obstacle to innovation, but rather the compass that guides us toward technological progress that is truly beneficial for all."
