Research

Robotics and its integration with AI are expected to be the next technological revolution. This fusion, where robotics will allow overcoming the current limitations of AI, its embodiment, will have dramatic impacts on our society. These impacts might exceed those witnessed with mobile communications and the Internet, which have changed people's lives and fully transformed the economy, creating millions of jobs. Already in 2007, in his famous talk “A Robot in Every Home”, Bill Gates predicted that “we are at the birth of a new industry (…) [that] may well change the world” . This prediction is on the brink of becoming a reality, and the latest developments are already showing its disruptive impact in our society and everyday life.

The unique combination of theoretical expertise and experimental experience related to the development of robotic technologies puts CAR in an ideal position to address scientific questions of this project. This requires a multi-disciplinary approach that spans between the fields of human-robot interaction (physical and cognitive), autonomy, the internet of things, perception and learning algorithms, decision making, supervision, control, mechatronics, ethics etc.

Our research is be carried out following four Research Tracks at the frontier of knowledge in various scientific and technological disciplines. Research Tracks are implemented by Research Units.
