The Center for Automation and Robotics (CAR) is a joint research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). Its main objective is to develop both fundamental and applied research focused on addressing socio-economic challenges. The center has more than a hundred researchers whose activities are focused on the following scientific and technological fields: Field Robotics, Human-Centered Systems, Supervision and Control, Autonomy, and Artificial Intelligence.

Our goal is to generate and transfer scientific and technical knowledge in all fields related to Automation and Robotics. Our research is cross-cutting, interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and multi-sector.
At CAR, we carry out research through agreements with companies and competitive programs from national and international institutions, including the European Commission and National as well as Regional R&D&I Plans.
The research activity at CAR is strategically linked to UPM’s postgraduate training.
