Research Units

The research at the center is structured into four main areas of work: Field Robotics, Human-Centered Robotics, Supervision and Control, and Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence.

SUPERVISION AND CONTROL

This unit focuses on optimizing the degree of automation in manipulation applications and interactions, as well as cooperation between robots, machines, and humans, both in controlled environments such as factories and in semi-structured and unstructured environments that present challenges related to the role of human operators in supervising intelligent machines.

    HUMAN-CENTERED SYSTEMS

This unit focuses on advanced physical technologies to evaluate, model, and restore human physical and mental health. Our research aims to address social mobility challenges, develop emotionally intelligent autonomous robots, and design technology-based methods for motor and cognitive recovery through computational models to assist in the adaptive integration and interaction between human intelligence, robots, and AI in realistic future scenarios.

    FIELD ROBOTICS

This research unit focuses on autonomous robots designed to operate in unstructured and dynamic environments, such as indoor and outdoor agriculture, mining, underwater, space, healthcare, search and rescue, and environmental and animal monitoring. The goal is to design autonomous robots capable of executing complex missions, equipping them with advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and locomotion capabilities, as well as human-machine and/or machine-machine collaboration capabilities to achieve a level of autonomy that allows them to navigate dynamic, complex, and hostile environments.
